O’Hare just added 15 new electric vehicle charging stations in the economy parking lot, and honestly it’s about time. If you’ve ever driven an EV to ORD and circled looking for an open charger, you know the old situation was not great.
They’re on the ChargePoint network, and here’s the part I actually care about: the first hour of charging is free with parking validation. After that it goes to standard ChargePoint rates, but if you’re just topping off while you’re away for a few days, that free hour is a nice bonus.
Probably should have led with this — if you park in economy at O’Hare regularly, these stations are in the main economy lot and available first-come, first-served. No reservations. I’d aim to get there early if you’re flying out on a Monday morning since the lot fills up fast and the chargers will probably follow the same pattern. That’s what makes small airport upgrades like this endearing — they solve a real problem that actual travelers deal with.
