Southwest Adds LAX-Mexico Routes

Southwest just quietly added new routes from LAX to Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, starting December 2025. I almost missed the announcement entirely — it showed up buried in a route update email I nearly deleted.

Flights run twice weekly, which isn’t a ton of frequency, but it’s Southwest, so no change fees if your plans shift. If you’re eyeing a holiday trip to Mexico from LA, I’d book sooner rather than later. Probably should have led with this — holiday dates on new routes tend to fill up fast once word gets out, and these beach destinations are exactly what everyone’s searching for in December.

That’s what makes Southwest adding Mexico routes endearing to budget travelers — no bag fees, no change fees, and a straightforward points program. LAX to the beach without the usual airline nonsense.
